The Fashionista Award

Now let’s all watch as Jess- the girl who thinks it’s cool to tuck her jeans into her socks- tries to answer a selection of fashion based questions in the least sarcastic way possible. In all seriousness though, thanks to Nessa at https://thatchicfashionblog.wordpress.com/ (who was actually my blog design inspiration) for the nomination and creating the award. That’s one impressive missy right there.

What motivated you to start blogging? I designed my blog about 18 months ago, it was originally called Glitter In A Jar and was going to be about music after my involvement with a songwriting forum, but I never posted anything. Then, in an erratic March decision after reading a book by Caitlin Moran, I randomly changed the name and look of the blog (which let’s be real here, was probably the only interesting thing that actually happened in March) and Half Girl Half Teacup was born. If I’m honest, I think writing this blog and researching the issues I write about is what made me a feminist (we won’t talk about pre-fem Jess, she wasn’t a good egg).

Favourite movies? Beauty and the Beast is my all time favourite, followed by American Beauty. Shoutouts to Avatar, Anastasia and Whiplash though, you all simultaneously break my heart (yes I’m speaking to films as if they’re people).

What is your dream career? There are many careers I think I would be great at, if they existed:

• Tampon testing
• Dancing round my room to Charli XCX
• Fangirling over John Cusack’s voice
• Crayoning
• Being a Disney princess

Top wish list items at the moment? Well I’m currently saving up for a body protector for jumping at my stables, now I’ve taken that scary step (or should I say jump)- sadly it’s not a cheap hobby. I’m sorry if that’s a crappy answer I told you fashion wouldn’t be my specialist subject on mastermind. If it’s any consolation, I also really want to try the Soap and Glory supercat liner, L’Oreal true match foundation and some wool tights for Winter.

Favourite television shows? I love Orange Is The New Black, I adore the variety of races, bodies, personalities and general diversity amongst the cast- plus how talented is Uzo Aduba? New Girl season 4 has just hit the UK and therefore I can spend the next two months admiring Hannah Simone. Other than that I spend my free time watching Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse in German and calling it revision. (Update: Who else is watching HUMANS on Channel 4!?)

What store do you find yourself shopping in the most? Waitrose, Waterstones and Boots. They cover the three main bases (food, books and tampons) although I’m also impartial to a bit of Missguided…which I would be able to spend more money on if they scrapped sanitary tax cough cough cough David Cameron.

Favourite fashion designers? …what constitutes a fashion designer? My knowledge is minimal but I salute whoever invented wellies. And slipper socks.

Describe your dream vacation? I adore cold places- probably because my family are obsessed with the sun- I would love to do a log cabin Christmas so I could make my sledging debut and sing ‘Do you want to build a snowman’ without judgement. Canada and Russia are also on my metaphorical travelling list.

What are the goals for your blog? Naturally, I want to continue to grow my audience and increase the number of people my feminist messages are reaching, but developing even more connections with other bloggers is equally important. My next steps are getting a logo (anyone up for that?) and taking up some guest blogging opportunities. Rather that or writing a book, releasing a makeup bag range and conquering the consumer market a la Zoella.

If you had the opportunity to interview a celebrity, who would it be? Argh, you can’t ask me questions like this! There are so many incredible people living on the planet that I could learn limitless things from: Paige O’Hara (voiced Belle in Beauty and the Beast), Tom Hanks, Sylvia Plath (do dead people count?), Walt Disney, Katy Perry, etc. But if I had to pick just one it would be Julio, for his commitment to grabbing stretches in Uptown Funk.
